Manchester United have been linked with the signing of Alex Grimaldo, who currently plays for Portuguese giant Benfica and whose previous clubs include Barcelona. The club are looking to tighten things up at the back after a number of defensive problems.
Mourinho has been critical of Luke Shaw’s performances in recent games and Rojo and Blind have also not been playing at their best. In the first seven league games of the season they have let in seven goals. There are worries that the total for the season could be worse than last year which saw them concede thirty five goals all season.
Manchester United may have competition for the signature of Grimaldo from just across the city. Pep Guardiola is also thought to be interested in signing the 21 – year old Spaniard for Manchester City. It will need to be a careful decision for either team as his buyout clause from Benfica is worth £51 million.
If Grimaldo does sign for United, it is hoped that he will be as successful for the Red Devils as other import from Portugal Primeira Liga such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani.
