Surprising news from Stamford Bridge, Diego Costa and Thibaut Courtois are close to signing new contracts with their English Premier League club Chelsea. They were originally planning on returning to Spain at the end of the previous season, but head coach Antonio Conte convinced them to give Chelsea another try. Costa and Courtois wanted to go back to Spain because of a rough season in which Jose Mourinho was terminated and the football club fell short to qualify for European club competitions.
Within four months, the coach managed to persuade striker Costa and goalkeeper Courtois to stay with the West London team. Discussions about extending their contracts will begin in the new year. If Costa signs again with Chelsea, he could earn around £200,000 per week in comparison to the £150,000 per week he’s been earning since 2014. Courtois was earning £100,000 per week, which will likely raise to £150,000 weekly if he stays with the football club.
Chelsea’s head coach Antonio Conte impressed fans with his coaching style since the beginning of the season, successfully turning things around for the Blues. Conte has improved Chelsea’s defence with Courtois nailing six successive clean sheets. Costa has improved under Conte’s coaching as well, landing on the Premier League scoring charts with 12 goals.
